     Margaret Hales was born on 24 April 1822 in Jefferson County, Ohio, USA.¹ She was the daughter of Joel Hales and Sarah Ann Coffman.¹ Margaret married David Wickerd on 24 September 1839 in Hancock County, Ohio, USA.¹ He was 20 years old; she was 17. Margaret and David are listed for not having any children on the 1900 census. However, they are reported by Ken Hales to have had a son, John, who lived only 43 days.¹
          David, age 41, and Margaret, age 38, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census for the Millersburg Post Office in English Township, Iowa County, Iowa, USA. Also enumerated in this household was Margaret's father, Joel Hales, age 74. Margaret's sister, Mrs. Amelia (Hales) Stackhouse, and her family are also living in this dwelling but are listed separately.² Follow the link to see the census image.
