Mary Pliska, circa 1898 Mary Ann Pliska was born in September 1879 in Bohemia. 2,3 She was the daughter of Johann J. Pliska and Frances Dufek. 1 She immigrated with her parents in 1888 to the United States of America. They may be the Pliska family that came through Port Baltimore on the ship Strassburg which landed on 23 May 1887. This will need additional research. Family stories indicate that one of the girls was sick with chicken pox and the entire family was detained at the hospital until she recovered. 4 Follow the icon to see a picture of the Pliska family taken sometime after Frances (Dufek) Pliska died in 1894. Mary married John Tourek, son of Jas Tourek and Anna Sedlecek, on 3 July 1898 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. 2 He was 24 years old; she was 18. 5 Mary and John had six children. Three of these children died as infants and their names are not known. They have not been entered into this database. The children living to adulthood were, Mary Ann Rose, Ann Marie and John Joseph. 6 Here is a photo of the Tourek family taken circa 1902. Mary looks to be just a few months old. Here is a photo of the Tourek family taken circa 1906. The photographer's address was in South Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. Mary died on 3 May 1911 in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. 2 She was 31 old. She died in childbirth. The infant was buried in the same casket. 7 She and John were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. 2
