          Carl, age 31, was enumerated on the 1920 Federal Census at Story Street in Sheldahl, Polk County, Iowa.11 Carl worked as an instructor at a public school.11 Follow the link to see the census image.           Carl married Gertrude Prescott, daughter of Fred Prescott and Mary Vanderford, on 2 December 1925 in Conrad, Grundy County, Iowa. He was 38 and she was 22.1,12 Carl and Gertrude had 4 children. These children are Robert Prescott, William Andrew, Darrell Rae and Dean Lawrence.1 Carl worked as the Superintendent of Schools in Sheldahl.1 He also was the Superintendent of Schools in Polk City, Polk County, Iowa.1 He worked as a farmer near Saint Charles, Madison County, Iowa until they were "hit by depression and drought."1
          Carl, age 42, and Gertrude, age 26, were enumerated on the 1930 Federal Census in Polk City. Also enumerated in this household was their son, Robert, age 1 year and 11 months.           Carl went west 1942 to work in the Richmond Shipyards in California during World War II. His family came in 1943.1 In 1952, Carl and Gertrude moved back to Iowa.1
          Carl died on 21 December 1953 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.14,4 He was 65 years old. He is mentioned in a letter written by Gertrude Prescott to Grace Kelso.
