Direct Line Ancestor John Northrup
b. 15 May 1758, d. 24 December 1835
Last Edited=12 May 2004

John Northrup was born on 15 May 1758 in Danbury, Fairfield County, Connecticut.1 He was the son of Enos Northrup and Eunice Northrup.1 John worked as a blacksmith.1 John married Mary Gould on 27 December 1781. He was about 23 and she was 19.2 John and Mary had at least 2 children. These children are Theodorus Bailey and John I..1
John was enumerated on the 1790 census for Ridgefield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. It is possible that the following were also living in the household: Mary, his wife. I have not been able to identify these people that were also enumerated with him: two females. Enumerated two familes over is William Northrup. I'm not sure of the family conenction.3 I'm not sure which location my ancestor was enumerated in. John's father, Enos, was also enumerated in New York on the 1790 census. Follow the link to see the census image. 1790 U.S. Census, Ridgefield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, page 294 between 1790 and 1796, John and Mary moved to Dutchess County, New York.4 Their child, Theodorus Bailey, was born on 26 April 1797 in Washington, Dutchess County, New York.2 Their child, John I., was born circa 1803.5
John was enumerated on the 1810 census for Washington as John Northrup, aged over 45. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household: Mary, his wife, aged over 45; Theodorus, aged ten to fifteen years old; John, aged sixteen to twenty-five years old. I have not been able to identify these people that were also enumerated with him: three males and one female under 10; one male and three females aged between 10 and 15; and one male and two females aged between 16 and 25. There is not much information to confirm if this is the correct John Northup.6 Follow the link to see the census image. 1810 U.S. Census, Washington, Dutchess County, New York, page 26
John died on 24 December 1835 in Washingtonville (Lithgow), Dutchess County, New York.1 He was 77 years old.
