Aaron Switzer Baker was born on 15 November 1817 in Hampshire County, Virginia.1
He was the son of Cornelius Baker and Phebe Switzer.2
He went by the name A.S.
In September 1854, Aaron was living at "The Mines" in California.1
The following is an excerpt from a letter written by Abraham Millslagle to his cousins out west. This is a portion of the letter transcribed by Wilmer L. Kerns:
"I just got a letter from A.S. Baker that was wrote from California in the mine, and Thomas was with him, and William Martin was in the same _________. He said that he got there the first of September. He said they had not made much, but picked up a lump of gold the other day that made hin[sic] $28.1 "
