     Theodorus Northrup was born on 25 November 1840 in Dutchess County, New York.^1,2 He was the son of Theodorus Bailey Northrup and Amy Jackson.¹ Theodorus served in the military during the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private in Company C, 23rd Wisconsin Infantry. He was discharged as a Sergeant. According to Clyde Northrup, Theodorus fought in the battles of Chickasaw, Cypress Bend, Granville, Vicksburg, and Jackson to name a few.^3,4 He was known to live in the copper regions of Lake Superior after the Civil War.³ Theodorus worked as a farmer, teacher, and a mercantile worker.³
          Theodorus married Josephine Lumsden on 7 November 1871.⁵ Theodorus and Josephine had at least 8 children. These children are Frank Nelson, Amy Margaret, Lee Neor, Rena Belle, Theodora, Ada Bethany, Josephine J. and Leartes N..
          Theodorus, age 38, and Josephine, age 28, were enumerated on the 1880 Federal Census in La Fayette, Walworth County, Wisconsin. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Frank (age 7), Amy (age 5), Leartes (son, age 3 - missing is Lee Neor, daughter, age 3 - are these two the same person?), Rena Bell (age 2), Baby (daughter, age 7 months). Also in this household is their nephew, Bryon Preston, who works in the store.⁶ Theodorus worked as a retail merchant.⁶ Follow the link to see the census image.           Theodorus died in 1912.¹ He was about 72 years old.
