Jacob Milslagel was born after 1784 in Hampshire County, Virginia.1 He was the son of Georg Henrich Mühlschlägel and Catherine Loy.2 The 1790 census records for Hampshire Co have been lost. Other sources for residence information will need to be found. The 1800 census records for Hampshire Co have been lost. Other sources for residence information will need to be found.
Jacob married but his wife's name is not known. Jacob had 12 children but only 8 are known. These children are Martha, Samuel, Andrew, Susannah, Jacob, Elizabeth, Elias and Mary Jane.
Jacob was enumerated on the 1820 census for Hampshire Co as Jacob Milslagle Jr., a male between 26 and 45. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household: Jacob, Andrew, Samuel and Elizabeth, aged newborn to ten years old; Martha, aged sixteen to twenty-six years old. I have not been able to identify these people that were also enumerated with him: a female over 45 years old; two females between 10 and 16 years old; two females between 0 and 10 years old.3 Follow the link to see the census image. , 1820 U.S. Census, Hampshire County, Virginia, page 221, line #

Between 1830 and 1840 most of this family migrated to the west. First they stopped in Indiana where Jacob's wife died. Grace Kelso Garner also believes that Jacob died in Indiana as well.5 He is the grandson of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel, original immigrant.
