Before 1850, Samuel moved to Fulton County, Illinois.3 Samuel, age 42, was enumerated in the household of his sister, Elizabeth and her husband, Samuel Strain, on the 1850 Federal Census in Center, Fulton County, Illinois. Another brother, Elias Milslagle, was enumerated in the next household. This indicates he lived very close by (e.g. next door or across the "street").1 Follow the link to see the census image. 1850 U.S. Census, town of Center, Fulton County, Illinois, population schedule, page 311 (621)
Samuel married Mariah (?).6 Samuel and Mariah may have had numerous children but I only know the name of one child, Owen.
Samuel, age 48, and Mariah, age 38, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census the Cuba Post Office in Putman Township, Fulton County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household was their son, Owen (age 4). Neither one is able to read or write. Samuel's personal property is valued at $50. There is no entry for the value of his real estate. Was his farm rented or did he work on another farm?6 Follow the link to see the census image.
