Jacob Milslagle was born circa 1819 in Virginia.1,2 He was the son of Jacob Milslagel.3 He may have been enumerated on the 1820 census for Hampshire County, Virginia in the household of his father as a male aged from newborn to ten years old.4 Follow the link to see the census image. , 1820 U.S. Census, Hampshire County, Virginia, page 221, line # He may have been enumerated on the 1830 census for Hampshire Co in the household of his father as a male aged ten to fifteen years old.5 Follow the link to see the census image. 1830 U.S. Census, Hampshire County, Virginia, page 38 Jacob married Jane Edmiston on 6 May 1849 in Fulton County, Illinois.6,7 He was about 30 years old and she was about 18. Jacob and Jane had 8 children. These children are Levi Richard, George W., Sarah, Charles Henry, Cordon Findley, Edward, Margaret and Mary.
Jacob, age 51, and Jane, age 31, were enumerated on the 1870 Federal Census for the St. David Post Office in Buckheart Township, Fulton County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Levi (age 13), George (age 10), Sarah (age 9), Henry (age 7), Cardin (age 4), and Edward (age 2). This is 10 years younger than I'd expect for Jane but Jacob's age agrees with the dates I have for him. Jane is not able to write.8 Jacob worked as a wood chopper.8 Follow the link to see the census image.           Jacob, age 58, and Jane, age 47, were enumerated on the 1880 Federal Census in Oakland, Schuyler County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Charles (age 16), Corden (age 14), Edward (age 12), Margaret (age 8), and Mary (age 4). Their three eldest children (Levi, George, and Sarah) are not living in the home. Levi has his own household but I do not know if George and Sarah are still living. This will take additional research. Jacob is unable to read or write; Jane is unable to write.9 Jacob worked as a day worker.9 Follow the link to see the census image.
