Samuel Strain was born circa 1817 in Pennsylvania.1,2
Samuel married Elizabeth Milslagle, daughter of Jacob Milslagel.1,3
Samuel, age 33, and Elizabeth, age 29, were enumerated on the 1850 Federal Census in Center, Fulton County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were John Rowley (Elizabeth's son, age 9) and Samuel Milslager (Elizabeth's brother, age 42). They live next door to another brother, Elias Millslagle. Elizabeth is illiterate.4
Samuel worked as a farmer. He does not appear to own his land.4
