Civil War Service - Private, E Co. 114th Inf Reg. IL      William Millslagle was born on 18 September 1839 in Sangamon County, Illinois.1,2,3 He was the son of Andrew Millslagle and Jane Waddell.1 He may have been enumerated on the 1840 census for Sangamon Co in the household of his father as a male aged newborn to five.4 Follow the link to see the census image. William, age 8, was enumerated in the household of his father on the 1850 Federal Census in Sangamon Co.5 Follow the link to see the census image. William, age 17, was enumerated in the household of his father on the 1860 Federal Census at District #16 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.6 Follow the link to see the census image. William served in the military during the Civil War. He and his brother, Jacob, enlisted on 11 August 1862 as privates in E Company, 114th Infantry Reg IL. When he enlisted, he claimed residence in Cotton Hill, Sangamon County, Illinois. He served until 17 Apr 1863 when he was discharged due to a disability.1,7,8 William died on 9 July 1863 at his house in Sangamon Co, from "diseases contracted in the Army.".1,9 He was 23 years old. He is the great-grandson of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel, original immigrant.
