Ulysses G. Haines was born circa 1864 in Cotton Hill Township, Sangamon County, Illinois. The 1910 census gives his parents birthplaces as Kentucky.2,3
He was the son of James Haines and Mayra (?).4
Ulysses, age 16, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1880 Federal Census in Cotton Hill, Sangamon County, Illinois. He does not attend school. His occupation is given as "works on farm."4

Ulysses married Minnie May Millslagle, daughter of Jacob Marion Millslagle and Elizabeth A. Peek, on 24 December 1885 in Sangamon County, Illinois. He was about 21 and she was about 17.1
Minnie's husband, Ulysses, married again in 1890. I do not know if Minnie died young or if they divorced.5
Ulysses married Ida A. Mottar on 29 October 1890 in Sangamon Co. This is at least his second marriage.5
Ulysses and Ida had 3 children. These children are Gary U., Lara M. and Grace M..6
Ulysses, age 46, and Ida, age 43, were enumerated on the 1910 Federal Census in Cotton Hill Twp. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Gary (age 18), Lara (age 15), and Grace (age 12).7
Ulysses worked as a farmer on a rented general farm.7

Ulysses, age 56, and Ida, age 54, were enumerated on the 1920 Federal Census in Cotton Hill Twp. Also enumerated in this household were their son, Gary (age 27), Hattie (age 25, Gary's wife), and Roy (age 5, Gary's son).8
