Direct Line Ancestor Hannah Wickham
b. August 1826
Last Edited=28 Apr 2004

Hannah Wickham was born in August 1826 in Ohio.1,2,3,4 She was the daughter of (?) Wickham. Hannah married Samuel Milslagel, son of Andrew Milslagel and _____ (?) (wife of Andrew Millslagel), circa 1848. He was about 36 and she was about 22.5 Hannah and Samuel had 8 children. These children are Julia Ann, J., Rachel Elizabeth, Carrie, Samuel Adelbert, Martha, William and Catharine.
Samuel, age 40, and Hannah, age 24, were enumerated on the 1850 Federal Census in Pioneer Township, Cedar County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household were several children: Andrew (age 15), Jackson (age 13), Robert (age 11), Thomas (age 8), Sena (age 6), Moses (age 4), and Julia A. (age 1). One child that is not enumerated with them that is living with them in 1860 is Jacob. He would be about 10. I wonder if he is not a son but a nephew or cousin. Samuel and Hannah are not able to read or write.6 Follow the link to see the census image.           Samuel, age 52, and Hannah, age 36, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census in Lithopolis, Hardin County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household were several children: Robert (age 20), Thomas (age 18), Asenath (age 16), Julia Ann (age 11), J. (male age 8), Rachel (age 5), Samuel Adelbert (age 3). Four of Samuel's children were not enumerated with him: Andrew (about 25 years old, probably born in Ohio), Jackson (about 23 years old , probably born in Ohio), Jacob (about 20 years old, probably born in Ohio), and Samuel Moses (about 14, born in either Ohio or Iowa). The enumerator only listed initials of the residents' names but all of the initials match with this family's known children. But, there is a conflict with the children's ages as given by Garner. Also, Samuel's birthplace looks like it might be given as New York and not Virginia as expected.7 Follow the link to see the census image. S.           Samuel, age 60, and Hannah, age 44, were enumerated on the 1870 Federal Census for the Eldora Post Office in Clay Township, Hardin County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Rachel (age 15), Catharine (age 10), Martha (age 7), Carrie (age 3), William (age 1). Samuel's farm is valued at $2640 and his personal property was worth $200.8 Follow the link to see the census image.           Samuel died on 9 March 1875, leaving Hannah a widow.9 Hannah, age 53, was enumerated in the household of her employer, Thomas Baskin, on the 1880 Federal Census in Melrose, Grundy County, Iowa. Also living with her were three of her children: Catharine (age 18), Ella (age 16), and Carrie (age 13). William who would be 11 years old is not enumerated with her.10 Follow the link to see the census image.           Hannah, age 73, was enumerated on the 1900 Federal Census at Main Street in Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa. Also enumerated in her household were her daughter, Martha (age 36), and a 7 year-old boy who is listed as a boarder. His name is illegible. She owns her house without a mortgage.11 Follow the link to see the census image.
