     Robert Millslagle was born circa 1839 in Ohio.1,2,3 He was the son of Samuel Milslagel and Julia Ackley.1 He may have been enumerated on the 1840 census for Monroe County, Ohio in the household of his father as a male aged newborn to five.4 Follow the link to see the census image. 1840 U.S. Census, Union Township, Monroe County, Ohio, page 79 Robert, age 11, was enumerated in the household of his father and stepmother, Hannah, on the 1850 Federal Census in Pioneer Township, Cedar County, Iowa. Samuel Millslagel household, 1850 U.S. Census,  Pioneer Township, Cedar County, Iowa, population schedule, page 124 (86), dwelling #625, family #625 Robert, age 20, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1860 Federal Census in Lithopolis, Hardin County, Iowa. Before 1862, Robert worked as a farmer.7
          Robert enlisted as a Private on 11 August 1862 at the age of 22. His brother, Thomas, enlisted on the same day. He served in F Company of the 32d Infantry Reg. IA. His company fought in Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee. The cause of death was pneumonia. He was about 25 years old. This is a picture of the Hospital at Nashville. It was taken during the battle in December 1864.

Robert was described as 5 feet, 11 1/2 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, and auburn hair by his commanding officer shortly after Robert's death.7 He was buried in Nashville National Cemetery, Plot G.8265 in Nashville.7,9
          He is the 2nd great-grandson of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel, original immigrant.
