     Thomas Millslagle was born circa 1842 in Ohio.1,2,3 He was the son of Samuel Milslagel and Julia Ackley.1 Thomas, age 8, was enumerated in the household of his father and stepmother, Hannah, on the 1850 Federal Census in Pioneer Township, Cedar County, Iowa. He is not marked for attending school.4 Follow the link to see the census image. Thomas served in the military during the Civil War. He enlisted on 11 August 1862 as a private in F Company of the 32nd Infantry Reg IA. He was 22 years old. His brother, Robert, enlisted the same day. Thomas was promoted to a Full Wagoner on 1 November 1863. He mustered out at Clinton, Iowa on 24 August 1865.6
          Thomas married Eliza Baumgardner, daughter of J. Baumgardner and R. (?).1 They had at least 4 children. The three boys grew to manhood but the girl died in infancy. The names of the known children are Thomas Wellington and Clyde Clinton.7 Eliza died in 1876, leaving Thomas a widower.7
          Thomas married Serena A. Stout, daughter of Franklin B. Stout and Julia Ann Ewin, in 1878. He was about 36 and she was about 31.1 Thomas and Serena may have had numerous children but I only know the name of one child, Maude. Thomas died before 1880.8
          He is the 2nd great-grandson of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel, original immigrant.
