Levi Callender was born in September 1842 in Ohio.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Thomas Calander.6 Levi has also been reported as being born in 1839. The 1839 information is from his cemetery marker.7 Levi, age 10, was enumerated in the household of his father on the 1850 Federal Census in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, Ohio.           Levi, age 20, was enumerated in the household of Elzan Stewart on the 1860 Federal Census in Harrison Twp. I do not know the relationship between Elzan and Levi yet. Elzan has a fairly large farm (real estate valued at $6000 with personal property at $1500) so I assume that Levi is a farm hand. When I searched the records for Harrison County, I did not find evidence of his two sisters, brother or father.8 Follow the link to see the census image.
