     Donald Leroy Millslagle was born on 3 October 1908 in Saint Mary's, Warren County, Iowa.^1,2,3,4 He was the son of John Ernest Millslagle and Alta Carrie Collander. Donald, age 1, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1910 Federal Census in Jackson, Warren County, Iowa.⁵ Follow the link to see the census image. Donald, age 11, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1920 Federal Census at 3900 1st Street in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Donald, age 21, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1930 Federal Census at 3624 Columbus in Des Moines.⁷ Donald worked as a print man in a newspaper.⁷ Follow the link to see the census image.           Donald married Bernadine Donaker, daughter of Glenn Wickard Donaker and Lillian Mae Wilson, on 10 October 1934. He was 26 and she was 22.¹ A wedding announcement for Donald Leroy Millslagle and Bernadine Donaker was published in the Des Moines Register on 12 October 1934. Click on the icon to read the transcription.⁹ On 20 October 1934, Donald and Bernadine were living at 3915 Second Street in Des Moines.⁹ Donald and Bernadine had 2 children. These children are Richard Kent and Gary Lee.
          Donald served in the military during World War II in the Pacific. He had enlisted in the Navy as a "printer" but a clerk had either misread or mistyped it so he became a ship "painter." Apparently, he was happy to be painting ships in dry dock, away from the front lines, so he did not correct the mistake. In 1950, Donald and Bernadine were living in Des Moines.¹⁰

          During 1977, Donald and Bernadine moved to Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas.¹² Donald died in October 1983 in Hot Springs.² He was about 75 years old. His Social Security Number was 478-10-4829 and was issued in Iowa.² He is the 3rd great-grandson of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel, original immigrant.
