The Mulherns and Raffertys of Lawrence County, Ohio
Jantje De Jong (F) (28 May 1839 - 2 May 1911) Relationship=Great-granddaughter of Pieter Cornelisz Dalenberg. Last Edited=18 May 2005 Jantje De Jong was born on 28 May 1839 in the Warmenhuizen, Noord Holland, Netherlands.1 She was the daughter of Pieter De Jong and Trijnte Dalenberg.1 She is believed to have immigrated between 1844 and 1849 with her parents onboard the ship Massachusetts. After coming to the U.S., Jantje De Jong was also known as Jonaca De Young. Jantje, age 11, was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1850 Federal Census in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois.2 Follow the link to see the census image.
Jantje married Abraham Madderom, son of Pieter Madderom and Grietje Zwager, in 1860 in Roseland, Cook County, Illinois. He was about 25 and she was about 21.1 Jantje and Abraham had at least 9 children. These children are Jan, Trijntje, Grietje, Peter, Cornelius, Abraham A., Trijntje, Mary and Anna.1 Abraham, age 25, and Jane, age 21, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census for the Blue Island Post Office in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois. The record does not indicate that they were married within the year so I wonder if the 1860 wedding date is correct or if there was an omission on the census. Their farm is worth $500 and his personal property is valued at $200.3 Follow the link to see the census image. Abraham, age 35, and Jane, age 31, were enumerated on the 1870 Federal Census for the Calumet Post Office in Hyde Park, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Peter (age 9), John (also known as Jan - age 7), Margaret (also known as Grietje - age 6), and Cornelius (age 3). Missing is their daughter, Trijntje who would have been about 8. I believe she may be dead.4 Follow the link to see the census image. Abraham died on 11 October 1905, leaving Jantje a widow.1 Jantje died on 2 May 1911.1 She was 71 old.
