     Maartje De Jong was born on 22 August 1844 in Warmenhuizen, Noord Holland, Netherlands.1 She was the daughter of Pieter De Jong and Trijnte Dalenberg.1 Martje immigrated between 1844 and 1849 with her parents probably on board the ship Massachusetts;
          Pieter and Trijnte probably immigrated between 1844 and 1849 on board the ship Massachusetts with their children. After coming to the U.S., Maartje De Jong was also known as Margarett De Young.2 Margarett, age 6, was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1850 Federal Census in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois.2 Follow the link to see the census image. Maartje, age 15, was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1860 Federal Census for the Blue Island Post Office in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois.3 Follow the link to see the census image.
          Maartje married Willem Zwaart on 17 December 1862 in Roseland, Cook County, Illinois.1 Willem died on 1 April 1916, leaving Maartje a widow.1 Maartje died on 30 December 1924.1 She was 80 old.
