     Jon De Young was born circa 1822 in the Netherlands.¹ Jon married Tanka (?).¹ Jon and Tanka may have had numerous children but I only know the name of one child, Arka. Jon De Young and Tanka (?) probably immigrated around 1849 to the United States of America.
          Jon, age 28, and Tanka, age 25, were enumerated on the 1850 Federal Census in Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household was their daughter, Arka, age 1.¹ Follow the link to see the census image.
