     Peter De Young was born circa 1836 in the Netherlands.¹ He was the son of Henry De Young and Gage (?). The family immigrated sometime between 1844 and 1849 to the United States of America.² Peter, age 14, was enumerated in the household of Gage and Henry De Young (his suspected aunt and uncle) on the 1850 Federal Census in Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois.¹ Follow the link to see the census image.
