The Mulherns and Raffertys of Lawrence County, Ohio
Jon De Young (M) (circa 1825 - ) Last Edited=21 May 2005 Jon De Young was born circa 1825 in the Netherlands.1 Jon and Jan may be the same person. Their wives and children have similar names. All of the birthdays are very close to what I estimated from the census record. Jon De Young immigrated to "America". I wonder if he came with the other DeYoungs that came in 1849.
Jon, age 25, was enumerated on the 1850 Federal Census in Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois. Much of the information is blank so I do not know if he had an occupation or if he owned land. I am not sure this is the same John that is enumerated in 1860.1 Follow the link to see the census image. Jon married Catherine (?).2 Jon and Catherine had at least 4 children. These children are Henrietta, Henry, Ary and Gertje.2 Jon, age 35, and Catherine, age 33, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census for the Thornton Station Post Office in Thornton, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were Henrietta (age 10), Henry (age 9), Ary (age 5), and Gertje (age 6/12). I am not sure if this is the same John that was enumerated in 1850. The ages are appropriate.2 Jon worked as a farmer. His real estate is valued at $500 and his personal estate is worth $300.2 Follow the link to see the census image.
