     Rev. Nelson William Dalenberg was born on 10 November 1885 perhaps in Cook County, Illinois.1 He was the son of Cornelius Dalenberg and Maria J. Leenhouts. Nelson married Johanna Elizabeth Rietveld, daughter of Jan J. Rietveld and Antje Wognum, on 9 May 1913.2 Nelson and Johanna had at least four children. These children are Paul N., Paul N., Mary J. and Ruth Anne.3
          Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted its third and final draft registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Nelson filled out a draft card on 12 September 1918 in Lewistown, Fulton County, Illinois. He was 32 years old and described as having medium height, medium build, blue eyes and brown hair. His nearest relative was his wife, Elizabeth. Nelson worked as a miner.
          Nelson, age 34, and Johanna, age 38, were enumerated on the 1920 Federal Census at Broadway Street in Ipava, Fulton County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Mary (age 5) and Ruth (age 2 and a half).4 Nelson worked as a minister.4 Follow the link to see the census image.
          Nelson, age 44, and Johanna, age 39, were enumerated on the 1930 Federal Census at 202 S. Elmwood in Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were three of their children: Mary (age 16), Paul (age 9), Paul (age 0 months). They own their house which was valued at $6250 and they have a radio.3 Nelson worked as a church pastor.3 Follow the link to see the census image. Nelson died on 17 October 1959 in South Holland, Cook County, Illinois.2 He was 73 old. He was buried at Homewood Memorial Gardens in South Holland, Cook County, Illinois.5
