Gearitt Melton Roogeveen¹ (M)

     Gearitt Melton Roogeveen was born on 1 June 1882 in Illinois.¹ He was the son of Nicholas Roogeveen and Maartje Kuijper. Gearitt married Sophia Gemler.²
          Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted its third and final draft registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Gearitt filled out a draft card on 12 September 1918 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was described as being tall, medium build, blue eyes and blonde hair. He was 36 years old. His nearest relative was Sophia who lives at the same address.¹ Gearitt worked as Clerk for American Railway Express in Chicago.¹ Gearitt and Sophia were living at 306 116th Street in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.¹ Gearitt died on 23 March 1974 in Chicago.² He was 90 old.
