     Arie W. Gouwens was born on 15 January 1826 in Holland.1 He was the son of Willem Gouwens and Pietertje Plak.1 Arie married Geerigje Van Vuuren, daughter of Roel Van Vuuren and Grietje Baardwijk.1 They had at least 5 children. Only some of these children have been entered into this database. They were:
  • Giela (3 Aug 1851 - 7 Sep 1945) married Klaas Blink
  • William A. (5 Jul 1853 - 7 Nov 1934) married Trijntje P. Dalenberg
  • Rollin G. (1 Jan 1857 - 24 Jul 1941) married Antje Paarlberg
  • Nellie Gouwens (25 Jan 1862 - 3 Feb 1938) married Pieter A. Anker
  • Maggie A. (26 Nov 1864) married Jan L. Vinke.

          Arie, age 35, and Geerigje, age 32, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census in Thornton, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Giela (age 9), William (age 7), and Red (age 3).2 Arie worked as a farmer.
