     Giela Gouwens was born on 3 August 1851 in Illinois.¹ She was the daughter of Arie W. Gouwens and Geerigje Van Vuuren.¹ Giela, age 8, was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1860 Federal Census in Thornton, Cook County, Illinois.² Follow the link to see the census image. Giela married Klaas Blink on 2 May 1875.¹ Giela and Klaas had 8 children. They are:
