     James Rafferty was born in April 1852 in Connecticut.² He was the son of John Rafferty and Ann Ross.¹
          John, Ann and their children moved to Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio sometime after their son, James, was born in April of 1853.¹ James, age 8, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1860 Federal Census in Ironton.¹ Follow the link to see the census image.
