#76234 (A1a) has the Group 1 37 marker Modal Haplotype and a genetic distance of zero when compared to others in Group 1 having this Haplotype.

#76234 (A1a) shares Moses Stark [1793-1860] as a most recent common ancestor with #98044 (A1b). They then share the same direct male lineage from Moses to Aaron Stark [the Elder]. Their genetic results are a perfect match over 37 markers, both having the Group 1 37 marker Modal Haplotype; resulting in a Genetic distance of Zero. Because they are descendants of two known and different sons of Moses; then by deduction, Moses most likely had the same Allele values at these markers. (A1a) and (A1b) are off-set by 2 generations from Moses; that is, (A1a) is two generations nearer to the generation of Moses than (A1b).

When genetically compared, the probability (A1a) & (A1b) shared Moses as a common ancestor within the last 4 generations is  83.49%.  This is the more pessimistic probability which presumes the grandfather of (A1b) has the same allele values as (A1a). When genetically compared, the probability (A1a) & (A1b) shared Moses as a common ancestor within the last 6 generations is 93.29%. This presumes that if (A1a) had a grandson, his grandson would have the same allele values as (A1b). This would be the more optimistic probability.

Aaron [the Elder] lived 10 generations before A and 12 generations before B.  When genetically compared, the probability (A1a) & (A1b) share Aaron [the Elder] as a common ancestor within the last 11 generations is 99.29%; within the last 13 generations is 99.71%.

These genetic probabilities suggests (A1a) & (A1b) are most likely related according to the genealogy presented.

#B231310 (A1c1) has results over Markers 1 through 37. He has one mismatch at Marker DYS 385b relative to the H37 Modal Haplotype. Their is a 98.26% probability he shares a common ancestor with Member 98044 (A1b) within 9 generations. (A1b) is a descendant of Jonathan J. Stark, the grandfather of Mardecai Stark (1834-1885). (A1c1) and #78077 (A1d) share Enoch Stark as a common ancestor. (A1d) has a mutation at Marker DYS449. When they are compared, there is a 83.30% probability they share a common ancestor within 7 generations; or the Father of Mardecai Stark as a common Ancestor.

When compared to #98140 (B1a) who has the 37 marker Modal Haplotype, there is a 99.29% probability they could share a common ancestor within Gen 11; or Aaron Stark (1608-1685) as a common ancestor in Generation 10.

These genetic results over 37 markers are sufficient to place (A1c1) in Subgroup 1A, descendants of William Stark [1664-1730]; who was a son of Aaron Stark (1608-1685).

Comments 02/22/2010

#78077 (A1d) has a genetic distance of 1 when compared to the Group 1 most common H37 Haplotype. He Has an allele value of 30  at Marker 21 (DYS-449) while the most common Allele value at this marker is 29.

(A1d) is a descendant of Enoch Stark [1794-1864]; a brother of Moses Stark [1793-1860]. (A1a) & (A1b) share Moses as a common ancestor. Moses and Enoch were sons of Jonathan J. Stark [1773-1850]; the most recent common ancestor of (A1a), (A1b), & (A1d). Because (A1a) & (A1b) were a perfect match over their H37 Haplotype comparisons, Moses most likely had the same H37 Haplotype. However, when (A1d) is compared to either (A1a) & (A1b) over the H37 Haplotype, there is a mutation at Marker 21 between these lines of descent resulting in a genetic distance of 1. With the genetic and genealogy information available, we can only report the source of the Marker 21 mutation could have been Enoch himself, or could have occurred  in any of the generations in this descendant line; which would also include (A1d).

When genetically compared, the probability (A1a) & (A1d) shared: 1) Jonathan J. Stark [1773-1850] as a common ancestor within the last 6 generations is  76.87%; 2) Jonathan Stark [the Elder] as a common ancestor within the last 8 generations is 88.06%; and 3) Aaron Stark [the Elder] as a common ancestor within the last 11 generations is 95.84%.

Using the confidence threshold of 85%, there is less certainty the genetic comparison of (A1a) & (A1d) can predict they share Jonathan J. Stark as a common ancestor as reported in the genealogy; but this result doesn't totally rule out the possibility. The genealogy suggests Jonathan Stark [the Elder] was a common ancestor; the genetic prediction improved to a probability of 88.06%. The 95.84% genetic prediction Aaron Stark [the Elder] was a common ancestor provides considerable confidence he was a common ancestor of (A1a) & (A1d) as suggested by the genealogy.

(A1g) and (A1d) share Jonathan Stark [the Elder] as a common ancestor and both have results over the H67 Haplotype. When genetically compared over the H67 Haplotype, the probability (A1g) and (A1d) share Jonathan as a common ancestor within 8 or 9 generations is between 82.52% and 87.67%. According to the genealogy, (A1g) and (A1d) are off-set by one generation. The same comparison of (A1g) & (A1i) has a probability they share Jonathan Stark [the Elder] as a common ancestor in the last 9 generations is 96.46%. When (A1d) & (A1i) are compared over H67, the probability they share Jonathan Stark [the Elder] was a common ancestor in the last  8 or 9 generations is between 94.73% and 96.68% (One generation off-set). When (A1g) & (A1i) are compared over H67; the probability they share Jonathan Stark [the Elder] as a common ancestor within the last 9 generations is 96.46%.

The various comparisons of (A1d), (A1g), and (A1i) over the H67 Haplotype provides considerable confidence these three men are descendants of Jonathan Stark [the Elder]

#178528 (A1e) joined the project  04/17/2010. He has a genetic distance of 1 relative to the 37 marker Modal Haplotype.  When compared to (A1a), there is a 84.11% probability they share a common ancestor within 7 generations. The genealogy of both suggests they could not share a common ancestor within the past 5 generations — suggesting the same probability they could share James Stark [1739-1821] as a first common male ancestor. There is a 96.17% probability they could share Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common male ancestor within 11 generations.

#279117 (A1f) has been tested over 12 markers. He is a perfect match to the 12 marker Modal Haplotype for Group 1. Therefore, because his surname is Stark and he matches all members of Group 1 who match the 12 marker Modal Haplotype, he most likely is a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685].The Following genealogical records suggests Daniel G. Stark was a son of Aaron Stark [1776-1837] and Anne Gonterman.

Genealogy (Comments by Clovis LaFleur - 04/09/2013)

One descendant branch of Aaron was known by many early researchers as the Lost Kentucky Branches. Six brothers, after the Revolutionary War and before Kentucky became a State moved from Pennsylvania to Nelson County, Kentucky. Several descendants of one of these brothers, James Stark [1739-1821], later married Women with the surname Gonterman (also in the Kentucky records as "Countryman"), this family residents of Bullitt Co., KY. One of James' sons was Aaron Stark [1776-1837] who married Anne Gonterman. They later moved back to Spencer County, where Aaron Died in 1837 leaving a will. I mention this because Aaron Moved back to Spencer County as a result of the following 1826 Deed Made in Spencer County.

1826: This indenture made this fifth day of January 1826 between William Starke, Jacob Stark, Jonathan Stark, Daniel Stark, Elijah Stark, Adin Stark, John Gonterman and John Kester the heirs of James Stark decd of Spencer Co., to Aaron Stark for $500 tract of land lying on Elk Creek containing 71 acres in Mr. Jewels line to Wm. Jewels Wit: Thomas Frasure, Aaron Stark, Elisha Stark, Stephen X his mark Stark. Signed in this order: William Stark, Jonathan X his mark Stark, Jacob Stark, Adin Stark, Daniel Stark, Elijah Stark, John Gonterman, John Kester. Proved 16 May 1836 recorded 10 Sep 1838 Spencer Co, KY Deeds D:615

From the research of others, I found the following that most likely connects Daniel to Aaron and his wife, Anne Gonterman.

1838: Anna Stark the widow of Aaron Stark decd of Spencer County, Daniel Stark & Abigail his wife of Hardin Co., Ephraim P. Kester & Margaret his wife of Vigo Co., IN and representatives of the said Aaron Stark decd of the one part and James B. McCrocklin of the County of Spencer of the other part $1351.75 tract on waters of Elk Creek 67A corner to Elisha Brooks and William Jewell, corner to H. H. Bennetts no witnesses. Signed Anna X her mark Stark, Daniel G? Stark, Abigail, W B Stark, Ephraim P Kester, Margaret Kester. Spencer Co, KY Deeds E:217

This 1838 deed is referring to the same property lying on Elk Creek in Spencer County, clearly another connection to Aaron Stark and Anne Gonterman, but, also a connection to James Stark who married Hannah Unknown. Clearly, the Daniel Stark and Abigail of Hardin County are the above Daniel G. Stark and Abigail Kennedy. If the "G" middle initial happens to be correct, I would not be surprised Daniel's middle name was Gonterman.

R-U106 is a shorthand Haplogroup presentation for Haplogroup R1b1a2a1a1a*. #N17289 & #48711 have undergone deep SNP testing at FTDNA with these results:

SNPs Tested

Comments

M207+ / M173+ / M343+ / P25+

Positive SNP test results prove he is R1b1.

M18- / M73-

Negative results for M18 and M73 prove they are not R1b1c1 or R1b1a1.

M269+ / U106+

Positive result for M269 proves they are R1b1a2*, and the positive result for U106 proves they are R1b1a2a1a1a*. [The asterisk means this is a root Haplogroup.]

U198- / P107- / L1- / L48- / L6- /

P89.2- / L217- / L257 - / L325 -

Negative results for these SNPs prove they are not one of the known subclades of R1b1a2a1a1a*, but belong to the root/ancestral Haplogroup.

M37- / M65- / M126- / M153- / M160- /

M222- / P66- / SRY2627- / U152-

Negative results for these SNPS redundantly prove they are not any subclade of R1b1a2a1a1b*.

The R-U106 Haplogroup has been found to represent in over 25% of those  found to be R1b Haplogroup positive. The age of R-U106 is estimated to be around 3,100-3,900 years old. In Europe, R-U106 has a distribution running northwest to east and is found in higher concentrations in England (21.4%) and Scandinavia (Denmark 17.7%), reaches a maximum in the Netherlands (37.2%) and slopes down to the east through Germany (20.5%) and the Alps (Switzerland 13.3%, Austria 22.7) towards the Czech Republic (13.9%) and Ukraine (9.4%). This confirmed Haplogroup for #N17289 predicts all of the direct line descendants of Aaron Stark are R-U106 Haplogroup positive. The other members of Subgroups 1a & 1b have been predicted by FTDNA to belong to Haplogroup R1b1a2, shorthand notation being R-M269.

(A1i) and #206763 (B2e) both have a genetic distance of zero when compared to the Group 1 Modal Haplotype over 67 markers. They are direct descendants of two different sons of Aaron Stark [1608-1685] suggesting the 67 marker Modal Haplotype is the same as the Aaron Stark Ancestral Haplotype that is, Aaron Stark [1608-1685] most likely would have had the 67 Marker Modal Haplotype for Group 1.

FTDNA reported on 05/10/2010, results for Markers 1 through 37. #176520 (A1k) has a genetic distance  of 1 when compared to members of Group 1 having the most common H37 Haplotype. (A1k) has an allele value of 39 at Marker 35. All other members of Group 1 tested at Marker 35 have an allele value of 38. When (A1k) is compared to those with the most common H37 Haplotype, the probability that he shared a common ancestor with these participants within the last 20 generations is 99.83%.

When (A1k) is compared to #165568 (A1i), having the most common H37 haplotype and sharing Rev. Abraham Stark [1781-1857] as a common ancestor within the last 7 generations —  the probability is 82.51% they share Abraham as a common ancestor within 7 generations; 87.4% they share Daniel Stark [1746-1810] as a common ancestor within 8 generations; 91% they share Jonathan Stark [the elder] as a common ancestor within 9 generations; 93.61% they share William Stark (Junior) as a common ancestor within 10 generations; 95.5% they share William Stark (Senior) as a common ancestor within 11 generations; and 96.84% they share Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor within 12 generations.

The comparison of (A1i) and (A1k) over the H37 Haplotype provides considerable confidence (A1k) is a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685] and that his lineage to Stephen D. Stark [1808-1869]; and from Stephen to  Aaron Stark [1608-1685] is genealogically correct.

#9Z5ZG (A1l) was tested by Sorenson Molecular Genetics Foundation and given the ID# used at http://www.ysearch.org. The "-" in the results indicates these markers were not available for comparison to the FTDNA markers used in Panel 3. The lineage is based on his reported genealogy back to R. Walter Stark. The connection to Aaron Stark through Rice A. Stark was contributed by Project Administrator Gwen Boyer Bjorkman. Because Y-DNA results over Markers 26 through 37 are not available for comparison to the FTDNA markers, the following will only discuss the H25 Haplotype comparisons.

(A1l) has a genetic distance of 1 when compared to the Group 1 most common H25 Haplotype. When  (A1l) is compared to those with the most common H25 Haplotype,  the probability  they share a common ancestor within the last 20 generations is 94.69%. This probability estimate is based on a comparison of #115456 (A1q) to the most common H25 Haplotype.

He genetically is most likely a descendant of Aaron Stark [the Elder]; however, for now the genealogy cannot be genetically confirmed without more genetic information.

#334868 results are a perfect match over 67 markers to #165568, a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685] through Aaron's son, William Stark (Senior), and grandson, William Stark (Junior). Both are a perfect match to the Aaron Stark Modal Haplotype over 67 markers. Genetically, #334868 is a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685] and related to other members of Group 1.

From the genealogy, Jehiel Stark was most likely the earliest known ancestor of #334868. However, the genealogy had not proven Jehiel Stark was a son of Phineas Starks. However, the fact that Jehiel named one of his sons Phineas H. Starks and the Y-DNA results prove #334868 is a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685], the probability is very high Jehiel was a son of Phineas Stark and grandson of Moses Stark [1716-1797].

#63737 (A2a) is a descendant of John Stark [1754-1825]; whose father was Moses Stark [1716-1797]. Comparing #334868 (A2b) to #63737 (A2a) results in a 36/37 match ratio; differing by 1 allele value at Marker 34 and having a genetic distance of 1.  Presuming Moses Stark lived 6 generations before the present (As presented in the genealogies of both members); when genetically compared to each other, there is a 82.5% probability they share a common male ancestor within seven generations. This could improve if both had been tested over 67 markers.

When #334868 is compared to #165568 over 67 markers, they are a perfect 67/67 match ratio. Their first common ancestor, who lived seven generations before the present, would be William Stark (Junior), father of the brothers, Moses Stark [1716-1797] and Jonathan Stark [1712-1764]. There is a 98.96% probability they share a common male ancestor within 8 generations.

From the genealogy, Jehiel Stark was most likely the earliest known ancestor of (A2b). However, the genealogy had not proven Jehiel Stark was a son of Phineas Starks. However, the fact that Jehiel named one of his sons Phineas H. Starks and the Y-DNA results prove (A2b) is a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685], the probability is very high Jehiel was a son of Phineas Stark and grandson of Moses Stark [1716-1797].

Comments 06/20/2012

194718 (A3b) has the surname Higgs and reports he recently found out he was adopted. He originally joined the FTDNA supported project entitled: "The Global Adoptee Genealogy Project." The genetic results of #194718 are a perfect 37 and 67 Marker match to 75156 (A3a).

Genetically, the FTDNA Tip comparison of (A3b) to (A3a) results in a 98.96% probability they share a common ancestor within the last 8 generations; or could share William Stark (third) as a common ancestor. There is a 99.81% probability they share Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor within 11 generations.

The identity of (A3b)'s paternal parent and direct male ancestral line cannot be genealogically determined with certainty at this time. Because (A3a) shares Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor with other members of Group 1; it is genetically probable (A3b) most likely shares Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor with members of Group 1. It is also genetically probable  (A3b) shares William Stark (Third) as a common ancestor with (A3a) within 8 generations.

The conclusions of this analysis are the following:

#535078, Y-DNA tested over 37 markers by FTDNA, when compared genetically and genealogically to Stark Project Members placed in Group 1, is confirmed to be a descendant of Aaron Stark I [1608-1685] of New London County, Connecticut. He is most likely a 4th cousin of the Father of Member # 203166, both being descendants of Isaac Stark [1805-1874]. While there could be errors in the genealogy presented, the genetic results of #535078 compared to the Group 1 Members confirm he has the Ancestral Haplotype of Aaron Stark I [1608-1685] and Aaron is his earliest known ancestor.

#257675 (A4c) genetic results were a perfect match to the 25 marker G1 modal haplotype. When M1a is compared to #78078 (A4a), having the 25 marker G1 Modal Haplotype, there is a 92.58% probability they share a common ancestor within 11 generations. Aaron stark [1608-1685], according to the genealogy, is their 10th generation common ancestor.

The (A4a) & (A4c) comparison results in a 84.92% probability they share a common ancestor within 8 generations. Christopher Stark, Jr., according to the genealogy, is their 7th generation common ancestor.

There is genealogical research that suggests Nathan Stark, who married Jemima Farnsworth, was a son of Christopher Stark (Junior). (A4a) is a descendant of Christopher through Nathan's brother, Asahel. Nathan Stark, who married Jemima Farnsworth, lived in Granville, Washington County, New York after the Revolutionary War and can be found at that place in the 1810 census. According to a Revolutionary War Pension submitted by Jemima, Nathan died in Granville in 1812. It is probable Joshua Stark/Starks was a grandson of Nathan through his father, Benjamin Starks, who married Cynthia Dickerman about 1810 in Granville, Washington Co., NY.

#257675 (A4c) is presented in Subgroup 1A. His lineage has been presented as a descendant of Nathan Stark and Jemima Farnsworth. Further research may change the lineage in the future, but will not change the genetic result that (A4c) is a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685] of New London County, Connecticut.

#203166 (A4b1) may be a descendant of Nathan Stark through Isaac Stark, believed to be a brother of Benjamin. However, due to the genetic distance of 1 in a comparison of (A4b2) and (A4c) over 25 markers, the genetic probability is not sufficient to confirm with confidence (below the value of 80% probability). This could improve if their is an Upgrade of (A4c) from 25 to 37 markers.

However, the 25 marker comparison to (A4a) is sufficient to suggest (A4c) and A4b1) share Christopher Stark, (Junior) as a common ancestor within 8 generations. Further, the 37 marker comparison of (A4a) and (A4b1) results in a genetic distance of 1 and a  88.77% probability they share a common ancestor who lived within 8 generations, this being sufficient to suggest (A4c), (A4a), and (A4b1) all most likely share a common ancestor within 8 generations.

Comment 05/24/2012

Test results over markers 26-37 were available 05/21/2012. All results from the upgrade are now available. Over Markers 38-67, N56748 has, relative to the Aaron Stark Modal Haplotype over these Markers, a mutation at Marker 64 (DYS572). Of the 7 members of Group 1 tested over Markers 38-67, this has been the only observed mutation relative to the Aaron Stark Modal Haplotype over these markers. Over 37 markers, N56748 was a perfect match to #154414; both have an allele value of 14 at Marker 30 (DYS456). Relative to the Modal H37 haplotype, both have one mutation at Marker 30. Both share John Stark [1763-1841] as a common ancestor. #56748 descends from John's son, Daniel, while #154414 descends from a second son of john named Henry. This suggests John Stark [1763-1841] may have had the same mutation at Marker 30. While N66901 (with Kelly surname) does not have this mutation and descends from a third son of John named Isaac, along the N66901 descent from Isaac, there may have been a back mutation from 14 to the modal value of 15.

Comparisons of N56748 over the H37 and H67 Haplotypes further confirm his relatedness to members of Group 1.

Comments by Clovis LaFleur dated 02/15/2010

When the  H37 haplotype of #154414 is compared to #N17289, there is a 99.88% probability you share a common ancestor who lived within 20 generations. Assuming you are a descendant of William Stark (Senior) through his son Christopher (Senior); and from the genealogy reported by #N17289; he is  a descendant of William Stark (Senior) through his son Daniel [1702-1758]; then William (Senior) was your most recent common ancestor who lived 9 generations earlier. There is a 92.13% probability you and #N17289 could have shared William (Senior) as a common ancestor who lived within 10 generations.

N66901 (A4f) has the surname Kelly. Family tradition suggests g-grandfather changed surname from Stark to Kelly. Thomas Benton Kelly married Missouri Jane (Sheppard) Smith in 1887, her second marriage. Preliminary research suggests T. B. Kelly was an alias and he may have been David Franklin Stark, son of William A. Stark and Fidelia Ann Kimble. William A. Stark was most likely a son of Isaac Starks [1796-1869] of Clermont County, Ohio. There is a 98.72% probability N66901 shares Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor within 11 generations; when compared to Members #334868 (A2b) and #206763 (B2e); both having the Group 1 H67 Modal haplotype. (A2b) is a descendant of William Stark, Sr. [1664-1730], a son of Aaron Stark [1608-1685]. (B2e) is a descendant of Aaron Stark, Jr. [1654-1701], a older brother of William and son of Aaron Stark [1608-1685].

When (B2e) is compared to (A4f), they have been in separate descendant branches from Aaron [1608-1695] for 10 generations and their comparison results in a 98.72% probability within 11 generations. The comparison of (A2b) to (A4f) results in the same probability value for they share William Stark, Sr. [1664-1730] as a common ancestor 9 generations earlier and Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor 10 generations earlier.

Comments dated 08/30/2012:

#247428 (A5a) is a perfect match to the Group 1 37 marker Haplotype. His genealogy suggests he descends from Aaron Stark [1608-1685] through his son William Stark (Senior) and grandson, Christopher Stark (Senior). (A5a) is the first descendant of  Christopher's son Aaron Stark {1734-1778] to be tested. His perfect match to the 37 Modal Haplotype and #78078 (A4a), a descendant of Christopher Stark (Senior) through Christopher Stark (Junior), suggests Christopher Stark (Senior) most likely had the 37 Marker Ancestral Haplotype.

From Aaron Stark Family, Seven Generations, by Charles R. Stark, page 21, Individual #88
"Aaron Stark was born in Groton, Conn., Nov. 3, 1732. His name is found in the records of Wilkes-Barre Township as appearing for himself in the year 1772 to claim his right in the purchase. On 3rd of July, 1778, he was at the fort to protect his wife and children. His wife in her fear urged him to fly to his old home in Dutchess County [New York] to escape the fury of the savages, but he chose rather to stay and take his chances. The family fled to the fort and the father went forth to defend his loved ones from the cruel foe. After the troops broke and ran, Aaron and his son of the same name also fled and hid themselves in the driftwood along the river. The father was discovered by the savages and taken out and cruelly murdered before the very eyes of the son. After the massacre, his widow eventually found her way back to Dutchess County, taking five children with her. Her given name was Margaret. She afterwards married Stephen Stocker of that county. She died there about 1814. Aaron's name appears on the Wyoming monument as a victim of that day's tragedy."

Comment 12/22/2012

Comment 12/22/2012

#87105 is a 35 of 37 match to the common haplotype for Group 1. His ancestry back to Aaron Stark [1608-1685] has been confirmed from Andrew Starks to Reuben Stark who was a son of Ebenezer Starks.

#87105 had an allele value at DYS-464e which is normally not a marker value found in the Panel 2 Haplotype. FTDNA reports the following: "Markers 464a-d are copies found at different locations on the Y chromosome. In about 1.5% of the test subjects, more than 4 copies will be present, representing Markers 464e, 464f, and 464g. If those additional markers are found, they are considered a one step mutation."

Comment 10/15/2015

Aaron lived 10 generations before the present. #427177 has mismatches at Marker 1 (DYS-393) and Marker 21 (DYS-449) for a genetic distance of 2 from our Group 1 Members with the most common 37 Marker Modal Haplotype for Group 1. When compared to a Group 1 Member having the 37 Marker Modal Haplotype, there is an 87.2% probability #427177 shares Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor within 11 generations.

At Marker 1 (DYS-393), notice the allele value is 12, relative to being 13 for the majority of our Group 1 Members who have the value 13 at this marker. Three of our Group 1 Members have the value 12 at Marker 1. In particular, when #427177 is compared to Member #406866, they match at Marker 1, but differ at Marker 21; #427177 having the the allele value 28, while #406866 has the value 29. Therefore, #427177 only has a mismatch at Marker 1 relative to #406866. When compared to #406866 (having the surname Starks), there is a 95.84% probability #427177  and #406866 could share a common ancestor within 11 generations. However, at this time, the genealogy of #406866 is not known; but his genetic results suggest he could be a descendant of Aaron Stark.

Earlier genetic analysis has revealed two Members of Group 1 (#87105 & #115764) with the allele value 12 at Marker 1, have been found, after genealogical analysis, to be descendants of Ebenezer Starks [1768-1860] and his spouse, Tryphasa Munsell (daughter of John Munsell). Ebenezer was a gg-grandson of Aaron Stark [1608-1685]. Ebenezer’s father was Stephen Stark II [1717-1777]; grandfather was Stephen Stark I [1686-1755]; great-grandfather was Aaron Stark II [1654-1701]; and gg-grandfather was Aaron Stark I [1608-1685]. Ebenezer was born in Connecticut; moved to the region that eventually became South Hero, Grand Isle Co., VT, where he can be found in the 1800 thru 1820 census records. Ebenezer was living in Champlain, Clinton Co., NY in 1830 (located about 20 miles Northwest of South Hero just across the border from Vermont and just a few miles south of the Canadian border). #87105 descends from Reuben Starks [1797-1877]; while #115764 descends Norman S. Starks [1796-1875]. Reuben and Norman were sons of Ebenezer and Tryphasa.

Ebenezer lived six generations before our #87105 & #115764 members of the project. We cannot make a 37 Marker comparison to #115764 for he was only tested over Markers 1 thru 12; but had the value 12 at Marker 1. #87105 was tested over 37 markers and has a genetic distance of two when genetically compared to #427177. When the genetic results of #427177 are compared to #87105, there is an 61.87% probability #427177 & #87105 could share a common ancestor within 7 generations; or Ebenezer as a common ancestor. There is an 86.61% probability they could share Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor within 11 generations. If the genealogy of #406866 should prove he is a descendant of Ebenezer, then there is a 83.3% probability they could share Ebenezer as a common ancestor within 7 generations.

The genetic results of two sons of Ebenezer having the Allele value of 12 at Marker 1 suggests this mutation from the 37 marker Modal Haplotype for Members of Group 1 could be unique to the descendants of Ebenezer. The genealogy documentation of John M. Starks [1813-1890] & Ebenezer Starks; suggests they could have been living in the same general regions. The 1830 census for Ebenezer reports a male in the home born between 1810 and 1815. At this time, the probable son of Ebenezer in that age group has not been identified. Would it be possible he was John M. Starks [1813-1890]? Could the middle initial "M" be the maiden name of his Mother, Tryphasa Munsell? At this time, the search for a genealogical connection continues.

In comparing their 67 marker haplotypes, the probability they share a common ancestor in the last 9 generations is 99.4%; 11 generations is 99.81%; and 20 generations is 100%.

#483977 Genetic-Genealogy Analysis by Clovis LaFleur: 06/20/2016

Y-DNA results for #483977 over markers 1 through 37 resulted in a 37/37 match ratio to the most common Haplotype in Group 1, descendants of Aaron Stark [1608-1685]. FTDNA predicts #483977 belongs to Haplogroup R-M269.

Using the FTDNATip Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor Probability Calculator, #483977 was genetically compared to #98044, a member of Group 1 in Subgroup 1a, having the most common 37 marker haplotype for this group. The comparison resulted in a 37/37 match ratio. In comparing their 37 marker haplotypes, the probability that #483997 and #98044 shared a common ancestor WITHIN: 1) the last 10 generations is 98.89%; 2) the last 11 generations is 99.29%; 3) the last 12 generations is 99.55%; and 4) the last 13 generations is 99.71%. According to the genealogy of #98044 and these genetic comparison results, #483977 is most likely a descendant of Aaron Stark [1608-1685].

#483977 submitted his genealogical file to FTDNA. I was able to access this file as an Administrator and review. His direct Paternal Stark ancestry went back 5 generations to Lorenzo H. Starks [1839-1920], as presented, left, in the lineage Table for #483977. As a result of the FTDNATip calculator results, it was clear the genealogical research should focus on descendants of Aaron Stark [1608-1685]. A search of my Aaron Stark [1608-1685] genealogical database revealed I had researched, in the year 2006, a descendant line from Aaron to a Lorenzo Starks, born in 1839; but had taken this branch no further.

Comparing the Lorenzo Starks genealogy of #483977 to my Lorenzo Starks genealogical file resulted in a positive determination they were the same person. When the complete genealogy, presented left, was compared to the genealogy of #98044, it was revealed; 1) both were 12 generations removed from Aaron Stark; 2) #483977 was a descendant of Aaron Stark (Junior), son of Aaron Stark [1608-1685]; and 3) #98044 was a descendant of William Stark (Senior), also a son of Aaron Stark [1608-1685]. Because #483977 and #98044 are descendants of two different sons of Aaron [1608-1685] — they belong to descendant lines from Aaron that have been separated for 11 generations. Logically, the first common ancestor they can possibly share, as indicated by their genealogy, would have been 12 generations earlier, the genealogy indicating that would be Aaron Stark [1608-1685].

Returning to the FTDNATip calculations above, based on the genealogy, logically, #483977 & #98044 cannot share a common ancestor in generation 10 nor in generation 11. However, they can share a common ancestor WITHIN Generation 13. From above, there is a 99.71% probability they could share Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor WITHIN Generation 13 — and this would be the only common ancestor they could share WITHIN Generation 13. Therefore, logically, there is a 99.71% probability #483977 and #98044 share Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as a common ancestor in Generation 12.

Based on the above Genetic-Genealogy Analysis, #483977 shares Aaron Stark [1608-1685] as common ancestor with all of the other Members of Subgroups 1a & 1b. Because he is a descendant of Aaron Stark (Junior), son of Aaron Stark [1608-1685], #483977 has been placed in Subgroup 1b.
