Family History of Charles M. McCool III
Shockley line

Shockley History

The last SHOCKLEY that is part of my family line is Mary Ellen SHOCKLEY. She was born during 1869 in Arkansas (probably Grant County) and married Charles M. HAYES 3 March 1887 in Pulaski County Arkansas. Mary Ellen and Charles had the following children:

Prencie Hayes (married Frank KODER)
Horace Hayes (married a HICKS?)
Lester Hayes (married Lula BURTON)
Ruby Violet Hayes, b. 16 Oct 1901 (married Roscoe Daniel MCCOOL)
Gladys Hayes

Mary Ellen later married Henry Badger McCool. They had no children.

Mary Ellen's parents were James Aquilla SHOCKLEY and Balcus HOOD. Their marriage record data is:

Balens Hood age 25 and James A. Shockley age 27, married 25 Nov 1860

Here are the census listings for the families, with links to the online data:

SHOCKLEY, Boley C. 0 2 0 0 0 1 - 1 0 0 0 0 1 -- 0

The "2" represents males between 5 and 10 years of age; they would have been James and John. The first "1" is male between 30 - 40; that is Boley. The next "1" is female 0 - 5; that was Mary J. The last "1" is female 30 - 40; Sarah.

B. C. Shockley also appears on the 1841 and the 1844 Saline County Delinquent Tax Lists.
