John and Sarah (Patrick) Wigle

John was born about 1795 in VA and married Sarah Patrick on 13 Feb 1817 (Source: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~wvhardy/harmarw.htm). (Sarah was born 13 Oct 1799 using a date calculator). John is found in the 1820 Hardy County, Virginia (now WV) census, living next door to his brother, Robert. By 1830 John and Robert have moved to Union Co., Ohio. The History of Union County, Ohio [page 676] indicates that Robert Wigle, Archibald Wigle [Robert's oldest son], and John Wigle came to Union Co. in 1839-40. Jacob Wigle [John's oldest son] came in 1838-39. John and Sarah had the following children:

John and Sarah are found in the 1840 Union Co., Leesburg Township, Ohio census, page 8. In 1850, "John Waggle" is found living with Chris Armentrout's family in Montgomery Co., Illinois [John's sister, Maria, died in 1837; we believe Chris is John's former brother-in-law]. Was he in Illinois looking for a place to live? The 1852 Special Census of Henry County, Tippecanoe Township, IA, lists John Weigle there with a younger male, which could have been Arch, age 17). In the 1860 census, we find John and Sarah in Jefferson Co., Iowa, Round Prairie Township, with Tillman C. Simpson, age 14, in the household. The Simpsons have been associated with the Wygle's from as early as 1800 in VA/WV and in 1865 Elizabeth Simpson is married to Chester C. Richee in the John Wigel home.

John Waggle died Sep 1869 at the age of 73 of "dropsy kidneys". He was a farmer. [Source: 1870 Mortality Schedule Jefferson Co., Round Prairie Township, Iowa.] He is probably buried in Jefferson Co., but without a marker.

In 1870, Sarah Waggle is listed in Jefferson Co., Iowa census #212-203. This census indicates she was born in Delaware, however the 1885 census indicates she was born in Maryland. In the 1885 census she is living with the Charles A. Clark family #178. Sarah is blind.

Sarah died 17 July 1890 at the age of 90y 9m 4da and is buried in the County Home Cemetery near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. There was no stone and the entire cemetery has been plowed under.
