RESOURCE MATERIALS:

  1. OBITUARIES. File of obituaries copied from newspapers and other sources. This on-going collection that's being loaded into a searchable file on our computer.
  2. MICROFILM COLLECTION. Collection of Newspapers, census records, Naturalization Records, etc.
  3. COUNTY - TOWN HISTORIES. Collection of County History books for the surrounding area, along with many area town and village history books.
  4. PRAIRIELAND PIONEER INDEXES. Index of Names that appeared in issues of the newsletter. Indicates Volume, Book and Page.
  5. CEMETERY RECORDS. Burials in Lyon County Cemeteries and cemeteries in neighboring counties. This is in a searchable file on our computers
  6. CENSUS RECORDS - FEDERAL AND STATE. With our membership with Ancestry, you can view all Federal and State Census records.
  7. NATURALIZATION RECORDS. We have Naturalization records on Microfilm for several local counties.
  8. NEWSPAPER ROOM. The room contains original Newspapers from surrounding towns. Some date back to the late 1800's. There are also newspapers on microfilm.
  9. AREA PLAT BOOKS. This will show land ownership in Townships.
  10. AUDITORS TAX RECORDS. Various early years for Lyon County. Identifies land ownership and personal property with values and taxes. It will give detailed lists of personal property such as livestock, equipment, household goods, etc. It also describes land parcels.
  11. TRANSCRIBED BIRTH/DEATH RECORDS. We have several Township records showing births and deaths for early years in their history.
  12. VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS OF OTHER STATES. These are mostly genealogical quarterlies or newsletters - along with some special publications.
  13. CHURCH HISTORIES. Publications of local denominations.
  14. OTHER REFERENCE MATERIALS:
    • Computer access to Ancestry, Minnesota Birth and Death Index, Minnesota Marriage Website and many other Genealoical Web locations.
    • Foreign Research books and Web Sites.
    • Many "How To" books for the beginning Genealogist.
    • Access to the SMSU History Center Reference Library.
  15. MINNESOTA MAPS We have current and many older maps and atlases.
  16. FAMILY HISTORY COLLECTION. Family histories that are in this region.
  17. SURNAME COLLECTION. This is a collection of Family Group Sheets, or Pedigree Charts.
  18. HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE ANNUALS.
