Guestbook message of January 2010 from PhilipT
John TILBURY (b. 1844 Clanfield), grandfather of George THOMAS (Speaker): in E.H. Robertson's biography of George THOMAS there is a photo labelled as "Tilburys in Hampshire, about 1855". This is incorrect as it dates from around 1905-7 (we have an original copy in our family). For those who know the photo the correct line up (obtained from my great grandmother Eliza Jane TILBURY via her daughter and grand daughter) is as follows.
Back row left to right:
Eliza Jane TAYLOR (nee TILBURY), William TAYLOR, sister of Elizabeth LOYNS (possibly Ann), Elizabeth TILBURY (nee LOYNS) and Thomas TILBURY in the hat.
The two young ladies are my two great aunts Emmeline JAMES (nee TAYLOR) and Mary Mabel TAYLOR (daughters of William and Eliza Jane) and the little girl is Emmeline's daughter Doris.
Eliza Jane TAYLOR was John TILBURY's sister. The photo was taken either in Denmead Hampshire or in South Wales.
