NOT the family of Albert Edward the baker & grocer, husband of Rosina:

Albert E. TILBURY b. c.1884 Allbrook, Hampshire (father Henry T. of Bishops Waltham, mother Anne of Perrott, Somerset)

Albert E. TILBURY, Pte. Royal Marines Light Infantry, father Harry T., deceased
m. Elsie E. FOSTER 4Q 1919

Albert E. TILBURY d. 4Q 1928 age 44 (Dover 2a/1333)

BURIALS in the Parish of Kingsdown in the County of Kent in the Year 1928
Albert Edward TILBURY, abode 3, The Rise, Kingsdown;
bu. October 11th, 1928, age 44 years, by John G. KEMP, Vicar. (pg. 73, no. 578)

Elsie Ellen TILBURY d. 4Q 1974 (b. 1 April 1894) (Dover 16/1076) Kent

Several of the Bishops Waltham descendants moved into Sussex:

The Bishops Waltham Tilbury Tree

Arthur W. E. TILBURY

I found this burial:

Arthur Edward W. TILBURY d. 3Q 1972 (b. 6 May 1899) (Dover 5f/989) Kent

However, there was no Arthur TILBURY of any style b. in 2Q 1899; there was an Arthur Ralph T. birth registered 4Q 1899, Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. None of the Arthur Edwards whose birth was registered 2-4Q 1899 had a family name in any way resembling TILBURY.

I have been unable to find the military record of Arthur W. E. TILBURY (or variants).

I did find this marriage, and it's quite possible that it was "your" Arthur, since I can find no other suitable. (A search on "Arthur TILBURY" b. registered 1Q 1911 - 4Q 1930 returned no Arthur W. E., or E. W., TILBURY, nor anything similar. It could be that this Arthur Edward W. was born outside of the UK - but for anyone seeking "cousins" it's perhaps worth checking from the marriage certificate?)

4Q 1947 (Sittingbourne 5b/1664)

Sidney Tilbury

I haven't been successful with Sidney. None of the Sidney T.s who died in the Great War, seem to have been him.

Frank Tilbury

Between Frank in the grocery business, and the CUTHBERT father a hairdresser, both more or less in the same area of Ealing, the CUTHBERT marriage seems viable. Only the marriage certificate could confirm the father's name.

Frank TILBURY m. Dorothy M. CUTHBERT 4Q 1923 (Brentford 3a/235)

- Roy S. TILBURY b. 3Q 1932 (Brentford 3a/359)

Dorothy M. TILBURY d. age 54, death registered 1Q 1950 (Ealing 5e/239) London

Possible marriages for two of Frank & Dorothy's children:
- 1Q 1956 (Wycombe 6a/1124)
- 1Q 1957 (Windsor 6a/535)

Other Tilbury lines in Sussex

This was more a "county of passage" for the Ts, than Hampshire (from where many passed through Sussex) or Buckinghamshire which has been a residence of T.s from before Domesday, probably part of the clan which was in Essex and moved up the Thames before waves of invaders.

While not wishing to confuse the issue, in case it might be helpful when trying to eliminate people, these are the principle other webpages with Sussex Ts (not exhaustive):

Descendants of probably Oliver T., in the Twyford, Midhurst area

The above family lived and worked in the essor of the MONTAGUEs, whom Elizabeth I allowed to remain Catholic, and act as a centre for catholicism in England. Whether or not Oliver was a steward to the MONTAGUEs I haven't discovered, but he certainly worked either on or close to their domain, until the fire which destroyed - their - Cowdray House. It's noticeable that his descendants then dispersed, tending to confirm that they had relied on the MONTAGUEs for their livelihood. (Bishops Waltham T.s are related to James of Midhurst.) Such Sussex branches are believed to descend from medieval Robert T., merchant, bailiff, and coroner of Winchester, considered to be the "father" of most Hampshire T.s, but whose origins remain unknown, at least to me.

John T., baker of Welbeck Street, London

This John was descended from a Sussex family of farmers, mostly in Rogate, but also Iping, Sussex.

Descendants of John "the gig" Tilbury, in Sussex: Brighton, Hove

The origins of John-the-gig-T. are unknown to date, except that his parents were Robert T. & Elizabeth, and that he probably had, at least, a sister Harriet. An extraordinary and, later, somewhat eccentric family, some descendants of grandson Harry moved into Sussex.

The above page and its associates are on what was previously the website of John T. of Nottingham, who gave us all a great start with our family history by being amongst the first to put a consecrated site online for the UK TILBURY name. Together with Alan STILES (m. TILBURY) and Alan TILBURY of Kent, they laboriously copied the births, marriages and deaths from the registers, before FreeBMD existed. T. descendant Robyn C. of Australia went to Buckinghamshire and also copied register entries which John published on his site. When John was unable to continue, rather than allow his pages to disappear he agreed to my incorporating them into my own site (which he had encouraged me to create), and in parallel to my other pages I try to add to his section in the spirit and style of its creation. I believe that all we T. researchers owe John - and the two Alans - a big "thank you"!

Alan T. of Chatham's "Thomas" family: in Sussex at the bottom of this page

The "Thomas" page is Alan's line, with all his globetrotters! Despite all his efforts, Alan has been unable to confirm Thomas's ascending line, although Thomas's father was probably a John T.

Alan T. of Chatham's "Edward-the-warehouse" family tree, several entries in Brighton

In the hope of discovering more about his own ancestors, Alan, who is a formidable researcher, also built the tree of Edward the-warehouse T., a fascinating story in itself - Edward, son of Edward T. surveyor. This family built a block of houses in Brighton (Patriot Place), and had a lookout tower in the garden - for ships coming up the Channel? Yet more mysteries to be solved!
