1755: Proceedings of Marriage

Stephen TILBURY of Alton in the County of Southampton Plumer Son of John TILBURY of Frensham in the County of Surry carpenter deceased and Jane his wife And Elizabeth GOODCHILD Spinster Daughter of Richard GOODCHILD of Bradley in the sm. County of Southampton Brickmaker and Mar[y] his Wife.

Having declared their Intentions of taking each other in Marriage before several Meetings of the People called Quakers in Alton aforesaid, and the Proceedings of the said Stephen TILBURY and Elizabeth GOODCHILD after due Enquiry, and deliberate Consideration thereof, were allowed by the said Meetings, they appearing clear of all others, and having consent of Parents and Pers. concerned.

Now these are to certifie all whom it may concern, that for the accomplishing of their said Marriage, this Thirteenth Day of the Fifth Month called May in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty ffive They the sd. Stephen TILBURY - and Elizabeth TILBURY - appeared in a publick Assembly of the aforesaid People & others, in their Meeting House at Alton aforesaid, and he the said Stephen TILBURY, taking the said Elizabeth GOODCHILD by the Hand, did openly and solemnly declare as followeth ...
Friends, In the F[e]ar of the Lord, & before this Assembly, I take this my ffriend Elizabeth GOODCHILD to be my Wife, promising through divine Assistance to be unto her a loving & ffaithfull Husband, untill it shall please the Lord by Death to separate us.

And the said Elizabeth GOODCHILD did then and there, in the said Assembly, in like Manner declare as followeth,
Friends, In the Fear of the Lord, and before this Assembly, I take this my Friend, Stephen TILBURY to be my Husband promising through divine Assistance to be unto him a loving & ffaithfull Wife untill it shall please the Lord by Death to separate us.

And the said Stephen TILBURY, and Elizabeth GOODCHILD, as a further Confirmation thereof, and in Testimony thereunto, did then & there to these Presents set their Hands.

On the Second Day of the Second month called February in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty one was Born at Alton in the county of Southampton unto Stephen TILBURY of the same Plumber and Elizabeth his wife a Son who was Named James TILBURY. Present at the Birth Mary THORNTON Midwife. Hannah VIDLER. Rebecca STACEY.

On the Twenty Seventh Day of the Twelfth month called December in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty four was Born at Alton in the county of Southampton unto Stephen TILBURY of the same Plumber and Elizabeth his wife a Daughter who was Named Sarah TILBURY. Present at the Birth Ann RANDALL Midwife. Hannah [BLOZE or BLOSS?]. Sarah BAKER. Rebecca STACEY.

On the Twenty Eight Day of the Nineth Month called September in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Nine was born at Alton in the County of Southampton unto Stephen TILBURY of the same Plumber and Elizabeth his Wife a Son who was Named John TILBURY. Present at the Birth Elizabeth WHITAKER Midwife. Hannah MESSER. Mary DAWES.

Tomson WARNER, of the [Pavement], Moorfields, London, Citizen & Founder, Son of Jacob WARNER late of Albans, Tin Plate Worker, and Ruth his Wife, both deceased; and Elizabeth TILBURY, Daughter of Stephen TILBURY, of Alton in the county of Southampton, Plumber, and Elizabeth his Wife, having declared their Intentions of taking each other in Marriage before several Meetings of the People called Quakers in London, & the County of Southampton, the proceedings of the said Tomson WARNER - and Elizabeth TILBURY - after due Enquiry and deliberate Consideration thereof were allowed by the said Meetings, they appearing clear of all others and having consent of Parents and Relations concerned.

Make a Grave on or before next First Day, in Friends Burying-Ground, at or near White Chapel and therein lay the Body of Elizabeth TILBURY Widow of Stephen TILBURY of Alton in the County of Hampshire aged about Sixty years who died the Twenty fifth Day of the Twelth Month, called December One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Two of a complication of Disorders according to the report of two Persons who viewed the said Body - William STEVENSON.
