William GREENAWAY m. Sarah of Berkshire
IGI - Father: William GRENAWAY, Mother: Sarah

- Benjamin GRENAWAY b. 13 July, Chr. 8 August, 1824 Isleworth, London
- Sarah GREENAWAY b. 6 October, Chr. 10 November, 1826 Isleworth, London
- James GREENAWAY b. 7 July 1831, Chr. 26 August 1832 Isleworth, London
- Lydia GRENAWAY Chr. 17 December 1837 Hounslow, London

Additional information courtesy of the Hounslow Library Local Studies section:

The baptismal register for Isleworth mentions father William GRE(E)NAWAY as Labourer; for Lydia's baptism in Hounslow William is listed as Horsekeeper. "All but Lydia GREENAWAY were baptised at All Saints Church in Isleworth, Lydia was baptised at Holy Trinity Church in Hounslow."
"Hounslow was not a parish (ancient or civil) but was divided between the parishes of Heston, a village two miles to the north, and Isleworth, a riverside village two miles to the south east, along its high street. The high street is an old Roman Road and it was anciently adopted as a boundary between Heston and Isleworth. Hounslow became a Church of England parish (but never a civil parish) in 1836 when its chapel - dedicated to the Holy Trinity and founded by Trinitarian friars as part of a priory in 1211 - was raised to the status of a parish church to serve the growing town. So there are no Hounslow Church baptisms before 1836"
[Hounslow Local Studies] "have name indexed and transcribed copies of the original parish registers for Isleworth" ... [they] "also have the original Parish Registers for All Saints Church here. These are too fragile to copy" [ie photocopy or scan]. "The register of ... baptism at Holy Trinity is on microfilm."
"The original marriage register covering 1833-1866 for Holy Trinity Church is long lost and is not in any known archive. It has been missing for decades. There is no known copy even at the London Metropolitan Archives."
"Our list of Regiments billeted at Hounslow Cavalry Barracks in the 1850’s does not show the Royal Horse Guards as having been stationed at Hounslow". Hounslow Local Studies hold copies of "Heston church marriage registers, on very poor microfilm ... Heston ... was the parish church for Hounslow Barracks".

It seems probable that Sarah's husband William died before 1841; Sarah with children Sarah, James, George and Lydia, seem invisible in the census. Apart from the baptism listed in the IGI, I can find no trace of daughter Sarah. Sons William and Benjamin MAY have been in Berkshire, but there were several GREENAWAY families there, so it's impossible to be sure:

1841: Reading St Mary, Berkshire (Household)
Elizabeth GREENAWAY b. c.1786 (outofCty)
William GREENAWAY b. c.1821 (inCty)
Benjamin GREENAWAY b. c.1826 (inCty)
with:
Joseph DARLING age 25, Thomas JONES age 1, Joseph MACELRIDGE age 20, Amelia MALHAM age 30, Joseph MALHAM age 25, William WEAN age 8

In 1851 Elizabeth GREENAWAY b. c.1786 Chalgrove, Oxfordshire, was still in Reading St. Giles, working as a Nurse.

1851: 16 Victoria ___, St. Marylebone
Sarah GREENAWAY age 57 b. Berkshire, Head (Widow)
- William GREENAWAY age 29 b. Hounslow, Son (Horse Keeper)
- Benjamin GREENAWAY age 29 b. Hounslow, Son (Horse Keeper)
- James GREENAWAY age 20 b. Hounslow, Son (Horse Keeper)
- George GREENAWAY age 16 b. Calbrook, Son (Horse Keeper)
- Lydia GREENAWAY age 15 b. Hounslow, Daughter

I have found nothing more about Sarah's sons William and Benjamin after 1851, and have been unable to find mother Sarah in 1861. Sons James and George appear to have married and raised families.
