A Samuel BUDD, surgeon, was the father of William BUDD (b. 1811 North Tawton; d. 1880) who became a medical doctor; he researched the spread of typhoid (enteric) fever and described his results in several publications, particularly "Typhoid Fever" in 1873, demonstrating that it was a contagious disease.
