**************
Hey Char, Here are some more names I have on John Moss' s wife Martha Griffin.

Martha Griffin b-Mar. 14 1842 Macon Co. d-June 4 1902 Macon Co.

She was the daughter of John Griffin and Margaret Ann (Peggy) Murley. This family also appears on the 1850 census page 340 family 755. John Moss and Martha Griffin were married on Oct. 5, 1858 in Macon Co.

Martha's parents:

John Griffin B- Dec. 25, 1815 Cumberland Co. KY D- Oct. 26, 1897 Macon Co.MO

Fath- Jesse Griffin Moth- Catherine Lewis

Margaret Ann Murley B- Mar. 26, 1820 Cumberland Co.KY D- Oct. 26, 1867 Macon Co.MO Fath- Daniel Murley Moth- Margaret Moore

They both are buried in the Steele Cemetery in Macon County as well as John Moss Mason and their daughter Martha (Griffin) Mason. Now, John Griffin did remarry after Peggy's death in 1867. He married Elizabeth Jane Shain on Nov. 20, 1870 in Macon Co.

I have no other info on our ancestors Jesse Griffin and Daniel Murley except they do appear on the 1810, 1820, 1830 Census for Cumberland Co. KY. They appear on the 1840 Census in Macon Co. so the must have migrated to MO about 1830-1838. From the census we can gather that Jesse Griffin was born 1760-70 in VA and he must have died prior to the 1850 Census because I havent seen him listed.

I do know that Murley is of Irish descent- so your right, we are a bit Irish. Daniel Murley appears on the 1850 Census Page 270 family 251, the children listed are grandchildren from a son that died.

Thats as far as I go back on the line.

Jesse Griffin Daniel Murley -had son John -had dau. Margaret

This John and Margaret married and had dau. Martha who married our John Moss Mason.

I grew up in La Plata and it's a real nice little town (pop. 1500) full of warm, friendly people. Grandpa Loy was well known, and when he died, it seems like the whole town came together and brought food to the house. Its things like that make it nice to be from a small town. I've heard that when your Ola lived there back in the early 1900s it was boom town. Not much there now. I enjoy going back there to visit my family and try to see grandma when I get a chance. She lives alone but sometimes has a busier schedule than me!! I cant wait to tell her I've contacted you all. She still keeps in touch with Vera through X-mas cards and such. Vera has always sent an obit to grandma when someone has died so I do have Ola's obit and I think Olive, George and Mildred also. Thanks for Vera's address. Well this should keep you busy for the weekend. Talk to ya later. --Lynn
