One knows that life in Cumberland County, KY in the 1820's would be a far cry from the easy life we know today. But at least one would be surrounded by friends and family that they grew up with. But at that time period the jump off into the wilderness of western Tennessee must have taken a bit of thought. We know not what pot of gold was depicted to have been there, but sometime after 1828 Daniel took his wife and their first child, along with his brother Hamilton and moved to Hardeman County, TN. We think perhaps he did this to please his wife, whose father had moved there in 1824. The Hamilton Savage family (an old Virginia family) could have exerted some influence on the young Daniel. But for whatever reason he chose, young Daniel settled in what is now Hardeman County, TN on land that is now know as Chickasaw State Park <murtrl.htm>. The geography was very much like the area he had know back in Cumberland County, KY but without the great river he had grown up on. Life must have been difficult, he may not have even built a cabin. Some think he may have lived either with his in-laws or his brother. He only remained in Hardeman County until about 1845, for he appears in the 1850 Census of Tishamingo County, Mississippi. Not a great deal is know about Daniel. There is only 2 documents in the court records in Hardeman county pertaining to Daniel, being deeds of trust.
