bullet  General Notes:

1786 Surry County NC, there is an inventory of an estate for a Henry Tilley naming his wife as Jane...this could be the son of Henry Tilly sr and he was not named in his will because Henry jr died before Henry sr. who's will was probated in 1790 in Surry County NC, the will was signed in 1789 and he is refered to as Henry Tilley sr.

bullet  Research Notes:

If your C. A. Allen is the same person as Anderson Allen, then it appears that your Sarah can be proven to be the daughter of Henry Tilley (deceased Rev. War soldier) and wife Elizabeth by the following deed filed in Stokes Co., NC by heirs of Henry Tilley.

Stokes Co., NC Deed Book 11, p. 157
Deed dated 4 April 1835
Peter Wood of Stokes Co., Anderson Allen of Patrick Co., VA, John Woods, Martin Tilly, Ellender Tilley, and Jane Tilley of Stokes Co. sold to James Throgmorton for $178.25 to "them and the next of the heirs of Henry Tilley, dec'd," land on North side of Little Snow Creek bordering Lazarus Tilley's old corner, 135 1/2 acres except 1 1/2 acres sold to Chas. Reeves now dec'd. Witness Wm. C. Moore & W. C. Cole. Signatures are Peter Wood, Anderson "n" Allen, John Wood, Martin (x) Tilley, Ellender (x) Tilley, and Jane (x) Tilley.

We know from the Rev. Pension Application file that Henry's daughter Alice was married to James Throckmorton. Marriage records in the county show a marriage of Nancy Tilley to John Wood on 17 Jan 1807. Jane H. Tilley (unmarried at the time of this deed)is believed to have married William H. Reeves on 30 June 1835.

Thus, it appears likely that these heirs are those of the Revolutionary War Soldier Henry Tilley. Many researchers (myself included) feel that this Henry Tilley is likely the Henry Tilley named in the will of Henry Tilley Sr. dated 13 Sept 1789 and died ca Feb 1790 in Surry Co., VA.

There is no Lewis Tilley named in this deed of the heirs of Henry Tilley (d. 1833). I don't know if there is any documentary evidence for a Lewis Tilley being his son or if the source for a son by this name is based only on an old DAR Application which I know listed Lewis (married to Sarah Martin) as a son. I really would like to see some convincing document that proves Lewis' relationship to this particular Henry.

Hope this helps with one issue--proof of parents of Sarah Tilley who married C. A. Allen (assuming C. A. Allen is same as Anderson Allen).
