Bland was a member of the house of Burgesses for Charles City Countyin December, 1700; August, 1701; May and June, 1702; and Prince GeorgeCounty in April, 1706. In 1708 Bland was clerk of Prince GeorgeCounty. In 1710 he was a vestryman of Bruton Parish Church,Williamsburg. He was an intimate friend of William Byrd II. Byrdmentions in his Diary having on numerous occasions been in Bland'shome in Williamsburg. In 1716 Bland was a member of the Board ofVisitors at the College of William and Mary.
