During the War Between the States he served in the 22d Texas Cavalry(aka 1st Indian-Texas) Regiment. This unit was composed of volunteersfrom both Texas and the Indian Territory. It is not to be mistakenthat the assigned personnel were native-American.

[6195] Although well maintained, this cemetery is still in an isolated rurallocation. As a result it has been seriously vandalized. In Jun 2001,the only headstone of a person related to our family that could bepositively identified was that of Sarah Terry, William Cobb's firstwife.

[6197] At that time, his widowed mother Mary Ann Edwards was living in hishousehold.
[6198] At his death, William Cobb had amassed a substantial estate, estimatedat the time to be worth some $50,000, involving well over a thousandacres of land situated in several different tracts, as well assignificant liquid assets. This in additional consideration of thefact that he was married three times and fathered some fifteenchildren (thirteen of which survived him), his estate was verycomplex. His son Jasper N. Cobb, nephew John H. Cobb, and friend D.E.Waggoner were appointed executors.
[10532] This event was recorded in Marriage Book C, pp 47, Fannin County,Texas. In Sep 1877, Cobb and Eliza petitioned the Fannin County courtto have Cobb named as the legal guardian of Conyer Fuller, Eliza'sdaughter by her marriage to Joel Conyers Fuller. The motion wasgranted. Following Eliza's death not quite two years later, somediscord arose among Fuller relatives concerning Cobb's continuedguardianship of the child. The matter was resolved in court with Cobbbeing sustained as the child's guardian. He continued making regularreports to the court concerning the child's welfare all the way up toJan 1893, when he reported she had come of age.
