Archibald Cobb

(1777-1864)

 

1.  Archibald COBB was born on August 4, 1777 in Morris County, New Jersey.  He was the son of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Young of Catawba County, North Carolina.  He appeared on the census in 1830 in Blount County, Tennessee.  He was counted in the household of son Sylvester on this enumeration.  He died in January 1864 in Knox County, Tennessee.  He was buried in Cobb Family Cemetery #3, Knox County, Tennessee.

 

He was married to Rebecca JAMES in 1802.  There were eight children produced from this marriage.  Only the three that had an eventual connection to Texas are shown here.  Rebecca JAMES was born about 1782.  She died before 1830 in Tennessee.  This based on the fact that her husband was listed in the household of their son Sylvester Cobb on the 1830 census of Blount County, Tennessee, and she was not present.  Archibald COBB and Rebecca JAMES had the following children:

 

        +2          i.   Sylvester Young COBB (born on May 27, 1803).

        +3         ii.   Thomas Church COBB (born on March 11, 1813).

          4         iii.   Joseph Benson COBB was born on February 19, 1816 in Knox County, Tennessee.

 

 

Although Sylvester Cobb lived and died in Tennessee, six of his twelve known children migrated to

either Texas or the Indian Territory.

 

Thomas Church Cobb led his family to Texas about 1850.
