John A. Cobb

1.  John A. COBB was born about 1820 in Tennessee.  He was the son of Robert Cobb, and grandson of Clisby and wife Margaret Young of Catawba County, North Carolina.  He appeared on the census on August 29, 1850 in Polk County, Tennessee.  At that time he was living next door to his parents Robert and Elizabeth Cobb.  He appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  He immigrated very soon thereafter to Arkansas.  He appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  He appeared on the census on June 15, 1880 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.  On this enumeration he claimed that he and his father were both born in Tennessee, and his mother in Kentucky.  He was a Farmer.

 

He was married to Nancy Jane LNU (COBB) about 1842 in Polk County, Tennessee (probably).  This based on the fact that John's family was living in that part of McMinn County that became Polk County (in 1839) as early as 1830.  The date is calculated on the birth date of the first child of this marriage.  Nancy Jane LNU (COBB) was born about 1825 in Tennessee.  She appeared on the census on August 29, 1850 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  She appeared on the census on June 15, 1880 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.  John A. COBB and Nancy Jane LNU (COBB) had the following children:

 

        +2                i.   Stephen COBB (born on April 27, 1841).

          3                ii.   Rhoda Elizabeth COBB was born about 1843 in Tennessee (Polk County probably).  She appeared on the census on August 29, 1850 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She was as yet unmarried, being listed in her parent's household.

          4               iii.   Mary Ann "Marion" COBB was born about 1847 in Tennessee (Polk County probably).  She appeared on the census on August 29, 1850 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She was not listed with the family on the 1860 census, therefore it is assumed she died young.

        +5               iv.   Nancy Jane COBB (born about 1849).

          6               v.   William Robert COBB was born in 1851 in Tennessee (Polk County probably).  He appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  He appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  He died in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.

          7               vi.   Margaret COBB was born about 1852 in Polk County, Tennessee (probably).  She appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  As she was not listed with the family on any subsequent census reports, it is assumed she either died or married sometime between 1860-1870.

        +8              vii.   Elisha Lafayette COBB (born on April 26, 1853).

          9             viii.   John COBB was born about 1855 in Polk County, Tennessee (probably).  He appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  He appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.

        10               ix.   Sarah COBB was born about 1857 in Tennessee (Polk County probably).  She appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.

        11               x.   Benjamin COBB was born about 1860 in Arkansas.  He appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  He appeared on the census on June 15, 1880 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.  At that time, he was the oldest child still remaining in his parent's household.

        12               xi.   Susan COBB was born about 1867 in Arkansas.  She appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  She appeared on the census on June 15, 1880 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.
