David is called late of Newton, New Hampshire, when he enlisted in the Continental Army for the duration of the war, at Morristown, New Jersey, May 1777, under Captain Caleb Robinson of Exeter, New Hampshire. He was unmarried, and his parents and brothers were all dead. His sister Rhode Colby, living at Salisbury, New Hampshire, 9 January 1819, was his heir.

He was buried in the Old Center Cemetery at Henniker, Merrimack County, New Hampshire David was a Revolutionary soldier who fought at the battle of Lexington and at Bunker Hill, and one of a scouting party driven from Concord, Mass. He came to this town (Henniker) and purchased a portion of the farm of his father, Isaac where he reside until his death.

David COLBY was born on 25 DEC 1763 in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. He died after 1806.
David Colby was another brother to Hezekiah. He lived at the Willaby Colby place, which is now owned by Francis Robbins. He was the father of William, who was drowned in the great freshet of 1824, and of David, who died not many years since. The latter was a good, honest soul, but a little peculiar. His face was set like a flint against innovation. The cutting of the railroad up through his old homestead vexed him very much. When inquired of how the railroad folks were getting on up there, his characteristic answer was, "They goes headlong, and they're going to the devil !" Cherry Valley is a township in the southern portion of the county.
Died in Cherry Valley, on the 21st of February, of Typhoid Fever, David Colby, aged 73 years. The deceased was a native of Grafton county, New Hampshire, but removed to Ohio in 1834, and settled in Cherry Valley, and shared in the privations incident to a home in a new country, which his toil had helped to render fruitful. His last illness, which was severe, was endured with Christian fortitude and resignation--He manifested no fear at the approach of death, but calmly fell asleep in the full hope of a glorious resurrection. By this afflicting stroke an aged widow is left to mourn her irreparable loss, and a large circle of friends and relatives deprived of the society and counsels of a kind and faithful friend.
