WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada-margaret Helen Rand, 84, died Thursday at her home. She was born in Meredith, the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Clough) Colby. She was raised in New England and moved to Canada in 1940.
She was formerly of Boston; Seattle; Toronto; Kitchener, Canada; Ottawa, Canada; and London, Canada, before setting in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
She attended schools in New England, New York State and Sackville, Neb., and earned a bachelor's degree from Mount Allison University in 1938. Rand was active in the Canadian Federation of University Women, serving as president of the Kitchener-Waterloo chaper in 1961, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, where she was second president. She was interested in poetry, history and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Charles Rand; two sons, Peter Rand of Meredith and Stephen Rand of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Susan Cressman of Kitchener, Ontario; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Kenneth Colby, died previously.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 621 King St., W. Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Memorial donations may be made to the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery or the charity of one's choice.
