Wayne Colby Jr., 54, of Masonic Hill Road, a Charlton town selectman and former owner and operator of Colby's Corner Kitchen, died yesterday in the Masonic Home after an illness. He leaves a son, Chan W. Colby of Sturbridge; a daughter, Kelly A. Brunelle of Charlton; four sisters, Patricia Zinkowsky of Charlton, Maureen Gaumond of Ludlow, Sandra Bowman of Coos Bay, Ore., and Martha Kollios of Bedminster, N.J.; his former wife, Carolyn (Sherbert) Colby of Charlton; a close friend, Sandra Klein of Charlton; and three grandchildren. He was born in Exeter, N.H., son of Maurice W. and Prudence C. (Martel) Colby, and lived in Charlton most of his life. He graduated from Exeter High School in Exeter, N.H., in 1961. He graduated from Worcester Junior College with a business administration degree in 1977 and received a certificate from Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Industrial Management in 1982. Mr. Colby owned and operated Colby's Corner Kitchen in Charlton Center for several years. Previously, he was the fleet manager for Southbridge Livery Bus Service and also worked for the American Optical Co. for many years. He was presently a selectman for the Town of Charlton, serving for the last six years. Mr. Colby was an executive representative for Boy Scout Troop 165 and was a member of the Friends of the Quabbin Reservoir Water Shed Association. He was a past president of the Wellsworth Athletic Association of the American Optical Co. He was past president of the Charlton United Way. He was a Little League coach in Sturbridge. He previously served on many committees for the Town of Charlton. He was a licensed private pilot. He was a member of the National Antique Wheelmen Association and Captain of the Massachusetts Division. He was a member and trustee of the United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held Monday from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., Southbridge, with a service at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Stafford Street, Route 31, Charlton. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery, Charlton. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to M. She was blessed with many friends and cared deeply for each one. Survived by brother, Orrin (Maurine) Colby, many nieces and nephews and friends.
