MURL ALLEN COLBY

Mr. Colby, 82, a former Colorado Springs resident, died Sept. 19, 2000, in Rapid City, S.D. He retired from civil service after working for many years at the Air Force Academy in the maintenance department. After that, he was a painting and maintenance contractor.

Mr. Colby was born March 22, 1918, in Yuma to Albert H. and Madge M. (Whitted) Colby, who are deceased. He was married April 13, 1941, to Roberta G. "Bobbie" McGinnis, who is deceased.

He is survived by a son, Roger A.; two daughters, Murlynn Jones and Patricia Grahl; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Hesse.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Gordon, Neb. A private inurnment will be at a later date at Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597.

RICHFIELD--Murvin LeRoy Colby, 76, of Richfield, Utah died Sunday, December 10, 1995 in Provo, Utah.

Born May 13, 1919 in Salina to LeRoy and Sarah Elizabeth Crane Colby. Married Vonda Geneal Littlewood March 5, 1951 in the Manti LDS Temple. He attended schools in Salina. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He had been involved in law enforcement in Sevier County for several years. He was a deputy with the Sevier County Sheriff office and served as Chief of the Richfield City Police Department. He was a mechanic at U.S. Gypsum in Siguard for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He was an avid ham radio operator.

Survived by wife, Geneal, Richfield; three sons, one daughter and their spouses: Ronald and Elaine Colby, Kearns; Kent and Nicole Colby, Salt Lake City; Marie and Fred Christensen, Annabella; Russell and Marla Colby, Richfield; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Therresa and Maurice Rasmussen, Salina; Joseph Darwin and Wana Colby, Orangevale, California. He was preceded in death by parents, two daughters, Jacquelyn and Debra Colby; three brothers, two sisters, June Monroe, Vee Colby, Donald Colby, Burnell Miner, Gerald Colby; two grandchildren; Todd Christensen and Karie Colby.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 1995 at 1 p.m. in the Richfield 9th LDS Ward Chapel, 159 North 400 West, Richfield. Friends may call at the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Salina American Legion Post #36. MURVIN LEROY COLBY HISTORY

He received the Purple Heart and Silver Star during WW II while serving with the army in the Philippines and Japan.

Murvin operated a business in Salina prior to entering law enforcement and also worked as chief mechanic for a coal company and car dealership.

Served as Ward Clerk in the Salina 1st Ward from January 1953 until July 1955.

Appointed Sevier County Deputy Sheriff on January 1, 1955 and served in this position for seven and one-half years. During his law enforcement career he was instrumental, with Sheriff Rex Huntsman, in the organization of the Sevier County Jeep Posse.
Richfield Chief of Police on July 1, 1962. He served in this position until September 1967.

1 November 1967, started working at United States Gypsum Company in Sigurd, Utah where he was employed until his retirement on 3 July 1986.

Graduated from North Sevier High School and also a 1959 graduate of the Camp Williams Police Academy. He also attended numerous FBI schools and training programs.
