Howard G. Bailey
BOSCAWEN — Howard G. Bailey, 66, of 1 Circle Drive in Boscawen died suddenly at his home Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
He was born in Warner Oct. 16, 1934, son of Ralph E. and Evelyn (Colby) Bailey. He grew up in Salisbury and was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1952. He later spent eight years in Rome, N.Y. He had been a resident of Boscawen since 1965.
Mr. Bailey had been a member of the Den Brae Golf Club in Sanbornton since 1971 and, at the time of his death, was serving as president of its association. He had also been very active in running many events at Den Brae and chairing numerous committees.
In addition, Mr. Bailey had been an active member of Franklin Lodge of Elks, BPOE #1280, for 27 years.
Mr. Bailey worked at the Merrimack Mfg. Co. in Boscawen for 15 years and at the time of his death was employed as a supervisor at the New Kearsarge Reel Co. in Contoocook, where he had worked for 20 years.
He was a Civil War enthusiast and had a great interest in its memorabilia. He was also a NASCAR fan.
Mr. Bailey served with the New Hampshire National Guard until becoming a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edward D. Bailey, who died Feb. 13, 2000.
His family includes his wife of 45 years, Edie M. (Smith) Bailey of Boscawen; three daughters, Sandra M. Clifford of Somerville, S.C., Roxanne T. Mead of Franklin, and Evelyn T. Pendleton of Webster; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond E. Bailey of Bristol; a sister, Barbara E. Schaefer of Hudson, S.C.; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. An Elks Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. during calling hours. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Home with the Rev. Betty French, pastor of the Webster Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
