Mrs. Julia Baker Colby passed from this life on Dec. 23, 1927, at the home of her daughter in Bridgton. Mrs. Colby was born on Jan. 14, 1846. Her parents, Sewell Baker and Sarah Smith Baker, were of that sturdy, God-fearing, race who were the pioneer home builders of the upper Kennebec Valley. She attended Farmington Normal school and during her younger days was a successful teacher in the schools of Somerset County.

On October 24, 1876, she married Calvin Colby of Bingham. He was a highly respected citizen and for many years a well known lumberman of Northern Maine. A daughter was born in their home, Mrs. W. A. Richmond, wife of the pastor of the First Congregational Church of Bridgton.

Mrs. Colby's life was a long and useful one, the greater part of which was spent in Bingham. For many years she was an active and valued member of the First Congregational church of Bingham. She was also a member of Centennial Rebekah Lodge, the Congregation Church Circle, Sunshine Society and was intensely interested in the welfare of Bingham Union Library.

Many will remember Mrs. Colby as a woman of rare intellect and meek personality, always devoted to her church, her home and the best interests of the community in which she lived. All who came under her influence felt for her a friendship that in most cases takes years to develop. These ties were many and in consequence her passing leaves and ache in the hearts of a host of friends.

The declining years of Mrs. Colby's life were spent with her daughter, Mrs. Richmond, were she enjoyed performing the little duties which add such comfort to the home and where she, in return, received the tender, thoughtful devotion of the family, consisting of her daughter, previously mentioned, her son-in-law, Rev. William A. Richmond, and her grandson, Colby Richmond. She is also survived by and elder sister, Mrs. Florence Wilson of Oklahoma City.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at Bridgton, her former pastor, Rev. J. C. Gregory, officiating. Brief memorial services were held in the Congregational church in Bingham on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Arthur R. Macdougall, Jr., officiated, assisted by Rev. W. A. Richmond. Interment was in the village cemetery at Bingham.

Life's work well done.
Life's race well run.
Now cometh rest.
