Deacon Timothy Colby came to a sudden death on Friday evening last. He had been to Contoocook and had returned to the village, when he stopped at the post office. Intending to go home on Beech Hill, he took position in his sleigh and died instantly, the time being a little past 7 o' clock. Deacon Colby was a well-known farmer and lumberman, a native of Hopkinton, and about 70 years old. For many years he had been a prominent member of the Congregational Church. In 1855, he was elected representative to the state legislature by the American Party, which resulted from the reorganization of politics in consequence of the repeal of the Missouri Compromise. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Harlan P. Gage, of Boston, Mass. The funeral took place in the Congregational Church on Monday afternoon and was largely attended. The services were conducted by the Rev. E. T. Farrill, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. A. J. Hopkins, of the Baptist church.
